Our Doctors
Dr. Mark Atma is a 1988 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University. He grew up in Southeast Michigan and attended undergraduate studies at the University of Windsor, Ont. He has always had a great affinity for animals and for nature. A particular interest for him is the human-animal bond. His hobbies include: hiking, backpacking, gardening, bicycling and kayaking. Whenever possible, he enjoys experiencing the wilderness experience in nature. He is married to Dr. Ruth TenBroek; since 1996, they have co-owned and managed Pennfield Animal Hospital. They have 3 children, two of whom are attending Calvin College in Grand Rapids. They also have 3 horses, 11 cats, one border collie, two peacocks, many chickens — and one frog.
DR. MARK ATMA
Dr. Tucker attended Michigan State University, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1995 and her doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1997. She hails from the downriver area of Detroit. Pets have been her passion for as long as she can remember, and it was always her dream to be a veterinarian. She is married and has 3 children. She currently has 2 cats named Louie & Smores and a dog named Sparty (Go MSU). She enjoys fishing, hiking, camping, traveling, gardening, knitting, and all the many activities she does with her children. Dr. Tucker sees appointments on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
DR. BETH TUCKER
Dr. Magers attended Harvard University, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1999, and then attended Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine for her doctoral degree (2005), during which time she took a course in wildlife and capture medicine in South Africa. After vet school, she completed a year-long internship in internal medicine, cardiology, surgery, neurology, and emergency medicine at Animal Emergency and Referral Center in the Chicago area. She spent a year in Kalamazoo working at Kalamazoo Animal Hospital, and then 4 years in Kalamazoo practicing emergency medicine at Southwest Michigan Animal Emergency Hospital before joining the staff at Pennfield Animal Hospital in late 2010. She is originally from Pennfield, and she and her husband Chris, their 3 children, and their dog live in Battle Creek. She enjoys writing, snowboarding, watersports, camping, and traveling.
DR. KATE MAGERS
Our Staff
Jennifer joined our veterinary team in November of 1997. She became a Certified Veterinary Assistant in 2000, and now works as our Office Manager. She has owned a variety of pets through the years, everything from dogs and cats to reptiles and chinchillas. She is a board member and treasurer of Alley Cat Angels, a local non-profit spay/neuter organization for feral cats. Jennifer also runs her own grooming and home pet sitting business. In her spare time, she enjoys playing soccer, baking, bowling, and making crafts to sell.
JENNIFER
Chris has been with Pennfield Animal Hospital since 1987 when Dr. Luneke owned the practice. She remained on staff when Dr. Atma and Dr. TenBroek became the new owners. Chris works as receptionist and Exam Room Assistant. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family; especially her 2 grandchildren.
CHRIS
Brooke joined our team at Pennfield Animal Hospital in 2013 as a Veterinary Assistant. She loves animals, especially her two beagles, Fletcher and Higgins. Brooke lives in Battle Creek with her husband and two children. In her spare time, she loves watching her children’s extracurricular activities and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys traveling, camping and is an avid fan of movies and music.
BROOKE
Mary has been a part of the PAH team since March 2003. As a Veterinary Assistant she enjoys assisting with surgeries, caring for hospitalized pets and helping the doctors in the exam rooms. Her love of animals includes her own pet family of miniature dachshunds, Gretel and Gus-Gus and cats, Tinker and Belle. She has 4 adult children and several grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys camping with her husband and dogs.
MARY
Betty first came to work at Pennfield Animal Hospital as a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 1975. She has three grown children. Betty has been a long-time cat owner and currently has two: Currier & Ives. She plays the clarinet in a variety of community bands, participates in figure skating, and works with the Special Olympics. She is an active member of her church. Enjoys cooking, reading and knitting.
BETTY
After moving back to Michigan from Hawaii, Kalyn joined the team in September of 2015 as a full time receptionist. She enjoys spending most of her time with her four- legged children, her dog Auli’i and cat Moki. She also enjoys hiking, anything involving ocean conservation and of course any opportunity she has to travel back to the beautiful islands to visit her ohana, she does so with no hesitation.
KALYN
Erica came to Pennfield Animal Hospital as a receptionist in 2016. She loves animals, greeting and talking to our customers and takes pride in taking care of our fur babies. Prior to working here, Erica's favorite job was being a fulltime mom to her 3 kids. She also is mom to a beagle mix named Zoey and one hamster.
She is very active with her kids sporting and extracurricular activities. She loves to cook, loves baseball and hockey and going to Tigers games with her kids. But most of all she loves spending time with her family and friends.
ERICA
Michelle joined our team at Pennfield Animal Hospital in 2016as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She has an Associates Degree in Veterinary Medicine and a Bachelors Degree in Organizational Management. Michelle and her husband Patrick live in Marshall with their two dogs and four cats. She enjoys gardening, listening to books, jigsaw puzzles, and Tigers Baseball.
